I believe that art is a powerful tool for peace and creativity, allowing individuals to express their unique voices and connect with others in meaningful ways. Sculptor Yaacov Agam once said, “Art is an instrument for peace and creativity.” This belief serves as the foundation for how I foster creativity, self-expression, and a sense of community in my classroom. I decided to become an art teacher because of my passion for the joy of art. Artmaking is a skill that God gifted to me, and through these skills I find true joy and peace. I believe art provides positivity  for those who interact with it in an environment that is encouraging and instructive. I want to teach art because I want to provide that environment for my students.

Looking back, what advice would you give yourself?

I would tell myself to be fearless. I would tell her I am proud of who she is and who she is becoming and I would remind her to be kind to herself.

What's your favorite A+D memory?

My favorite Art and Design memory was solo travelling to Italy to work on the SGARP site in Barbarano Romano with George Mason and Baylor University. I fell in love with the country  walking around Assissi and exploring the city by myself. I climbed to the top of the castle tower and sat drawing the scenery for two hours.

What was your favorite A+D class?

My favorite Art and Design class is between Printmaking with Prof. Marks, Painting 2 with Professor Kaniaris and Drawing 2 with Professor Pipkin.

What moment, project, and/or critique in your Art + Design career at AU has been pivotal to who you are as an artist or creator?

A pivotal moment in my career was my summative critique and summative painting for Painting 2. I came into AU with very little painting knowledge, and after those two classes with Prof. K I walked away sure that I know how to paint.

What's next for you?

I have accepted a teaching position in Pyeongtaek South Korea and will be teaching K-12 art internationally for the next two years!
