My name is Noah Rigsby, and I am a graphic designer who believes that design exists everywhere. It appears in the objects we hold, the stories we encounter, and the environments we move through each day. Design is intention and discovery, shaping how ideas are communicated and how people interpret the world around them. Through typography, materials, and form, design becomes a narrative that introduces an idea to its audience and establishes the first impression that guides their experience. It does more than communicate information. It creates meaning, fosters curiosity, and encourages new ways of thinking.
While design can exist on a screen, it becomes most powerful when it enters the physical world and interacts directly with people. Tangible work such as books, printed materials, objects, and environments transform concepts into experiences that can be held, explored, and shared. At the same time, design grows stronger through collaboration and conversation between designers, audiences, clients, and communities. Each project becomes part of an evolving process of learning and refinement, similar to a recipe that is continually adjusted to better suit its context. Through this process, design not only communicates ideas but also builds relationships, creating connections between people, places, and the stories that shape them.
Looking back, what advice would you give yourself?
Don't be afraid to pull inspiration from good designs of the past, they're good for a reason, learn what makes them good, you don't always have to be completely 100% original all of the time.
What's your favorite A+D memory?
When my baby brother came to model for a toy my group designed in history of graphic design. Letting him see what I had been working on and letting him be a part of it was special.
What was your favorite A+D class?
My favorite class was studio 2, it was refreshing to create things for myself after having prompts given to me for every project.
What moment, project, and/or critique in your Art + Design career at AU has been pivotal to who you are as an artist or creator?
Probably the signage book I made, it was a perfect blend of my interests: Tactile design, photography, as well as book making
What's next for you?
Finding a job that makes work feel like fun, my internship was a taste of that and I want more.
How do you hope your work makes an impact?
I hope to create things for other's enjoyment, that brings glory to God, and is good design.
