To me, design is an encapsulation of a variety of roles and modes, all working in harmony to uniquely, purposefully, and thoughtfully communicate to the world around me. Meaningful design solutions are a product of care at all points of the creative process in order to reach a place where the solution is thoughtfully found. As a designer, I am a researcher, ideator, communicator, collaborator, student, story-teller, explorer, collector, synthesizer, archivist, and more. I seek to make my care evident in every step of the process as I create out of a place of overflow.

In my life and my design practice, I recognize that God is Creator and design flows through Him, which transforms my work into an act of stewardship and partnership. While I am especially passionate about print publications, branding, and illustration, what I love about design is how it marries research, exploration, and creativity to bring joy to others, serve my community, and meaningfully point to something greater.

Looking back, what advice would you give yourself?

Failure is part of growth and fearlessness leads to more expansive thinking, so don't avoid it. A search for perfection will just stall your movement forward.

What's your favorite A+D memory?

While it's not one specific memory, my time on Ivy leaves as a print designer was really meaningful to me. There were lots of nights spent working, joking, and laughing with other designers that reminded me of the joy that can be found in my work. It helped me not take myself so seriously and appreciate getting to do something I love alongside good people.

What was your favorite A+D class?

I loved Advanced 2 for the opportunity to really sit with how I view design and get a new perspective on it. That class encouraged me a lot, helped me grow as a person and designer, and gave me the chance to meaningfully practice fearless creativity. I also loved printmaking because it reminded me of the joy in the act of making.

What moment, project, and/or critique in your Art + Design career at AU has been pivotal to who you are as an artist or creator?

Pitch Week was a really transformational experience for me. It was probably one of the first times I felt like a real designer, having crafted the solution from start to finish. It was somewhat terrifying to pitch to a panel of working designers, but it was also exciting and affirming to share something I had intentionally made.

What's next for you?

After graduation, I am open to the many possibilities that come with change. I could see myself working at an agency that is passionate about intentional and beautiful design solutions. I could see myself working towards owning a studio of my own one day. Regardless of the specific job, I intend to meaningfully carry my learning from school and passion for intentional design wherever I go. Even with the uncertainty of right now, I trust that I will end up exactly where I am supposed to be in order to use my skills and learning most meaningfully.

How do you hope your work makes an impact?

I hope my work shows care for others and points to something greater. I want my work to be impactful in how it thoughtfully responds to the world around me, brings joy to others, fosters connections between people, and inspires others who care about beautifully and intentionally made things.
