I believe in the hospitable, tried and true, wonder-filled, storytelling power of design. Infused with history, reliability, memory, and beauty, design provides the spectrum of emotion that is found in coming home. In my work, I aim to provide comfort, anchored in nostalgia.
I view design as a central place of sharing stories, both the consistently retold as well as the unheard of. A place rooted in time and relationships, design is a blend of quiet moments of introspection and loud moments of creative play. With the telos of interconnectivity, I believe design can cultivate a place of generosity, inclusivity, celebration, and wholeness.
Looking back, what advice would you give yourself?
It is a gift to not know what you’re doing.
What's your favorite A+D memory?
Some of my favorite memories have come from spontaneous moments with my cohort, professors, and friends that naturally turned into the most meaningful conversations. A memory that stands out was one Friday during our senior fall semester when a few of us went to a barbecue lunch with Anspach and ended up sharing stories, reflecting on our time in the program, and talking about our hopes and plans for the future.
What was your favorite A+D class?
My favorite A+D class was Advanced Design 2.
What moment, project, and/or critique in your Art + Design career at AU has been pivotal to who you are as an artist or creator?
Art + Design Week 2023 was a transformational moment in my design career at AU. Specifically the day our sophomore class took a field trip to printing shops in Greenville, everything started to click for the first time. That same day, attending Senior Symposia gave me a clear vision of what was possible in the years ahead, both within my program and my future career.
What's next for you?
I am eager to work in a studio that values authentic connection and thoughtful research within both its projects and client relationships. I’m also committed to continually refining my design philosophy and deepening my practice—remaining immersed in learning, whether that’s in a formal education setting or in my own independent practices.
How do you hope your work makes an impact?
I hope my work builds a slower, storied, and more intentional world, giving attention to all people, reaching hearts and amplifying voices.
