I’ve always been fascinated by patterns, repetition, details, and order. I am equally inspired by the chaotic beauty of nature, and the stability of manmade infrastructure, and I enjoy the challenge of balancing organic forms against more geometric designs. I take inspiration from architecture, maps, and city skylines, as well as from nature, where patterns on the edge of chaos can be seen abundantly: in meandering lines of traveling ants, in the patterns in tree bark, in the behavior of water due to surface tension, and more. I also take my inspiration from simple objects in everyday life. Beauty can be seen in something as mundane as the rhythm of the myriad of hoses hanging off an airport jetway.

I work primarily in fabric, embroidery, and paint. I put a lot of thought and care into the composition of my artworks; much of my work is sewn exclusively by hand, and I’ve dedicated a lot of time, hard work, and practice to improving the quality of my craftsmanship. Embroidery especially has great potential for both meticulous precision and detail, as well as the human imperfections that make handmade objects beautiful. One could even say that the act of sewing itself is an embodiment of the theme of order and chaos that permeates my body of work.
