Hey there, I'm Emilie! I’m a designer that creates from a place of intentionality and purpose, guided by thoughtful craftsmanship to serve others, communicate ideas, and spark joy.
As a designer, I see design not only as a means of visually communicating, but an insightful approach that reflects how we think, care for, and serve others. I aim to create from a place of intentionality, guided by thoughtful craftsmanship. This process is grounded in research, enriched by open-ended exploration, and shaped by intentional decision making.
Design for me serves as both a creative outlet, but also a means of bringing clarity to complex ideas through collaboration. It is a process where working together not only strengthens the final product, but also creates meaningful relationships along the way. Design, at its core, is an act of service, a way of showing care through creation. By ideating solutions that meet real needs and cultivate a sense of belonging, I find the most purpose in what I do. Through my work, I aim to create solutions that genuinely improve the experiences and lives of those who interact with it.
Looking back, what advice would you give yourself?
It’s okay for growth to take time. Give yourself some grace as you're figuring things out and trust your gut to pursue what you’re passionate about! Everything will work out in its time.
What's your favorite A+D memory?
My favorite A+D memory are the nights during ADV 1 that Lydia and Caroline spent the night before a big deadline. It was great to have them there beside me to offer encouragement/support and vice versa!
What was your favorite A+D class?
My favorite A+D class was Branding. I loved being able to dig into the research behind the brand itself and create a visual identity that was intentionally rooted in who they are!
What moment, project, and/or critique in your Art + Design career at AU has been pivotal to who you are as an artist or creator?
In Branding, our major project was a big turning point for me in my A+D experience. Before this class, I struggled with confidence in my design work, but through constructive feedback from both my group and Anspach, I began to trust myself and my creative decisions.
What’s next for you?
Looking ahead, I want to lead a life that reflects my love for others. In and outside of my career, I hope to surround myself with others who value collaboration and community. I’m open to wherever the Lord is leading me, and I’m excited to embrace the opportunities to grow in this next season of life!
How do you hope your work makes an impact?
My hope for my work is that it allows people to see the beauty in the mundane. There is something beautiful in designing for others in a way that creates space for connection, curiosity, gratitude, and joy.
