My work includes acrylic paintings, charcoal drawings, and pyrography pieces inspired by the natural world. Over the last couple of years, I have been creating layered landscapes that interact with linear forms. For me, these layers serve as a metaphor for the unfolding of a divine plan. I have also been incorporating math equations or physical diagrams in my work to show the consistencies in a world that continues to change. Ultimately, my art has become a way of getting to know the world and its Creator, allowing me to investigate the way a plan can remain present in a world defined by variability. My goal is to create work that captures this paradox and offers viewers a space for contemplation.
Looking back, what advice would you give yourself?
Looking back, I would tell myself to seek out advice from my classmates and talk through ideas with them. They are an incredible source of creativity, insight, and encouragement.
What was your favorite A+D class?
Painting 1 was my favorite A+D class. Professor K and my classmates created a positive environment for learning, where the class was both fun and a space for meaningful feedback and friendship.
What's next for you?
My goal is to eventually teach at the college. So, after graduation, I plan to attend graduate school to pursue my MFA.
How do you hope your work makes an impact?
I hope my work invites viewers to contemplate the world's design and the intentionality evident within it.
